Arana joins this episode to chat about what it’s like being a cannamom working in the legal weed industry in New York City.

The mom of two says that with The Travel Agency dispensaries, herself and co-founders, want to create a safe space for conscious cannabis consumers to find quality, local and BIPOC cannabis products they can trust. The Travel Agency has a New York flair that’s a totally different vibe than West Coast or Los Angeles legal dispensaries which was very intentional, according to Arana.

The New York weed industry is here and The Travel Agency is leading the way!

Meet Arana

Arana says she didn’t truly felt the stigma on weed until she started working in the cannabis industry. She’s the president and co-founder of The Travel Agency, a BIPOC founded company that believes legal cannabis has the power to repair the damage caused by the war on drugs.

The Travel Agency is a purpose-driven business, with the brand new Downtown Brooklyn store owned by those who have experienced cannabis-related injustices and their Union Square dispensary directing over half of the profits to The Doe Fund.

The unexpected hurdle of being a mom working in the cannabis industry.

The Manhattan mama says it took a while for her to figure out how to talk to the parents at her kids’ school about what she does for a living.

But she says she eventually realized she should have no shame or feel a need to qualify her cannabis profession because weed has never harmed or killed anyone unlike alcohol. Society has normalized alcohol use and even working in the industry as a profession, despite the plentiful data indicating the violence, harm and deaths caused by alcohol use. Meanwhile, weed use alone has perhaps resulted in some folks getting “off track” but it’s “certainly” not nearly as harmful as alcohol, Arana noted. These days she’s proud of the work she’s doing and will let people know she’s a cannaboss without any qualifiers because she believes the plant is a medicine that people deserve to have access to.

Arana also shares how cannabis has been a useful tool in her marriage and a way she even bonds with her mom!

Plus, Arana teaches us how to know if the weed you’re buying in the newly legal state New York is counterfeit or not! She noted just because the packaging looks legit doesn’t mean the product isn’t counterfeit. We also touch on why you should be wary of vape pens too. It’s an exciting time to be a cannabis consumer in NYC and with the Travel Agency — both Manhattan and Brooklyn mamas now have a safe space to find plant medicine for their health and wellness.

This is such a good episode, happy 420, y’all!
