On this week’s episode of Blunt Blowin’ Mama, we connect with public servant Carolyn Tran.
Carolyn is a single mom of two girls, who resides in Queens, New York. She’s a public servant and, in 2020, she ran for New York City Council in District 25 in Queens. She started her career in politics as an intern and she worked her way up to the chief of staff. We chat about her open cannabis advocacy and how she talks to her daughters about weed. She says she doesn’t want her to kids to grow up without knowing the racist history of the plant.
Carolyn is originally from the Bay Area in California, and she considers herself an experienced smoker who first started smoking weed in college. While she never hid the fact that she smokes weed, she credits listening to podcasts hosted by single moms of color as her inspiration to start living more out loud about her consumption. Like many moms who smoke weed, Carolyn has her own routine regarding her cannabis consumption. She microdoses during the day and may take an edible depending on what she needs to do.
She doesn’t hide her cannabis use from her kids but chooses not to smoke weed directly in front of them.
Carolyn shares her excitement about legalization in New York but doesn’t leave out the importance of social equity
Carolyn isn’t just interested in the recreational and fun side of cannabis. It is well known that Black people are arrested at higher rates than white people for weed, despite both groups consuming the plant at equal rates. Carolyn is working as a community organizer to bring attention to the disparities and fight for reform. We don’t leave anything out of this amazing conversation, check out the full episode below!
